All solid wood will expand and contract as humidity and temperatures rise and fall. This is also true at the point where the two halves meet. This area may expand or contract with changes in climate. The center leaf may also do the same thing. Don't be too worried about it. It's a natural thing for a solid wood product to do. One important tip: When you store your leaf, make sure the top surface is face down so the leaf doesn't warp. Don't store it on end or on its side. Caring for your finish A high quality finish enhances and protects natural beauty of wood furniture. This finish requires minimal care and maintenance. Every time you use wood furniture, be sure you wipe the top off with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Don't allow any water rings to remain on the surface. If you see a water ring, wipe it up immediately so the water doesn't soak through the finish into the wood. This will cause the ring to swell. On occasion, apply a good paste wax to the tabletop. Avoid aerosols as they have additives that aren't good for wood finishes. Remember that heat and water can cause damage to the surface. Never place a hot pot, pan or other hot object directly on the surface. This can scorch the finish and cause it to turn cloudy and brittle. Recommendations:
