Care
It's a good idea to turn non-foam mattresses end for end, so the bottom becomes the top. This will keep the springs from settling and conforming to your body.

A mattress cover will help protect the mattress from stains and soil. You can wash the cover regularly to keep it clean. Make sure you get one that is easy to remove and put back on so you'll want to wash it periodically.

Even if you have a jumper in the family, don't let kids jump on your mattress. This will damage the springs and shorten the mattress' useful life. And never bend a spring mattress more than 45 degrees. This will also damage the springs.

Cleaning
Like most furniture, mattresses collect dust. Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner or a small brush to remove dust.

If the mattress becomes stained, clean it with upholstery shampoo, following the directions carefully. You can also use dry suds, created by beating mild detergent in warm water with an eggbeater. Place the suds (no water) on the area and use a sponge to rub in the suds. Then dab the area with a sponge that has been wrung out. Don't get the padding inside the mattress wet. Let the mattress air dry before covering and using.
